What are Mobile Applications?

Many businesses have technicians working on the job site using Pocket PCs. They collect test readings and other information while in the field.

These collected data can be directly imported into the corporate database using Mobile Applications.

Mobile Applications can be written for either Palm based or Windows CE based handheld computers.

What do I need to buy?

For equipment, just the handheld computer. It comes with all the interface equipment you need to connect to the corporate database.

Then, of course, you need someone to write the Mobile Application and manage the interface with the corporate database.

MOBILE APPLICATIONS

These are small programs written specifically for handheld computers.

Here are two examples:

  • Environmental Lead Inspections - an example of PocketPC programming using PocketPC Creations software. This is a project created for an Environmental Inspections company in Northern California. Technicians inspect for lead in paint and other materials and record the readings in specialized equipment. This program, the ARM Coder provides technical reference needed to operate the specialized equipment.

  • Client Field Service Report (CFSR) - an example of PocketPC programming using HanDBase software. This was an internal project to record actions taken by RAMWrite Consulting while visiting clients.

There are three companies that provide Mobile Application development tools:
